More Than Just a Generation Z

MORE THAN JUST A GENERATION Z

Hi, readers! Long-time no blog but I’m now back, stronger and prettier. Char lang. Tawa muna kayo! So, how are you been doing these past months? I know it is still messed up out there but I hope we are not messed up inside us. I pray inner peace for all of us, and of course, health and safety.

As you can read by the title, this blog is about the Generation Z. I got excited to write this blog because of our Contemporary World class where our lesson is about Generation Z as VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous). I think that it will forever haunt me if I don’t share what I have in mind to you. I really need to share this because I know that most of my readers are from Generation Z, which where I belong as well.

We live in a world where Generation Z is named this and that – volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. For other people, we are all the bad things. Our instructor shared that a student in his other class said that Generation Z is not complex, we are just misunderstood. And I couldn’t agree more. Generation Y, Generation X, and the older people don’t understand us, our ways, our thinking, our beliefs, and everything.

They can call us all the bad things but let us not live like that. We should remember that someone’s opinion of us doesn’t have to be our reality. They can call us everything but we must not drift away from our core. We must stick to our truths. We must be ourselves. I believe that by being ourselves, we can make the world realize that we are more than just the Generation Z they know.

By knowing who we are, we can make an impact to our society. An impact that is great, helpful, beneficial, and unforgettable. They don’t understand our ways, thinking, and beliefs but let us use all of this for the better. It doesn’t mean big actions; it can be the simplest ways. The best thing we can do is to make the most of our means. If the following are what we can do for now, then let’s do it:

1.      Share post on social media platforms that are inspirational, educational, informative, accurate, and motivational. We must know that social media is used globally. So, instead of sharing nonsense things, start sharing something helpful.

2.      Stand for something. Stand for what is right. Do not be afraid to voice out your opinions but never forget to fact-check before speaking. There are a lot of fake news circulating online so be smart.

3.      Participate actively. You can support activities in your barangay or campaigns in your school, but virtually for now. You can join in different youth organizations. Just be purposeful. Strive to make a difference.

4.      Improve yourself. Be the change you want to see. Exert effort to make the best version of yourself. Love yourself right. No one can be a better teacher to others in how to love you that you yourself. Personally, I removed all the toxic people in my life out of my way. I unfollowed people in all social media platforms who can’t add value to myself. I made a rule that I will just spend 30 minutes in all social media platforms because I know that my time is worth for something away from the internet.

5.      Encourage the people around you. Be aware that words are powerful. It can either make or break a person. So choose to use it for good. Use your words carefully. Remember that what comes out of your mouth, that’s you. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

6.      Be responsible. If you will say something online, remember that many people can see it and can be affected by it. In my case, when I’ll say or post something online, I ask myself this, “If you can tattoo on your body all the words you say online, would you be proud?”

There are still a lot of things we can do and not just the things I mentioned above. We, the Generation Z, are born in the modern world where we can access better technology, where we rely on the internet, and where we spend most time on social media. As a challenge for all of you, since we are born in the modern world, let us use this for the better and for a good cause.

I know we are more than just the bad things they call us. We are more than just the Generation Z the society knows. And with that, I am ending this blog. It’s nice to be able to write again and to share something worth it.  Keep safe everyone. I had fun writing this. I hope you also had fun reading! Be proud of yourself, you are doing just fine. ‘Til the next blog. Mwa.
